Today I'll tell you about a bar in which I went a few months ago. It is a favorite bars of some friends who took me there and this bar, PJ Clarke's * is an institution.
Why am I talking about today? Because we only saw him in the new series, Mad Love, I watched last night (not bad, I expect to see more episodes to make me a real opinion). This series may be turned to (I do not know nothing) but in any case the exterior are Shot in NYC. And for the bar or the main characters find themselves, they used the outside of PJ Clarke's.
By cons inside is absolutely not true-like bar. Although it is clear they do not use the real bar for interior scenes, I would have liked at least inspire them!
Finally ...
This bar is actually a saloon, which opened in 1884 and held until now in the midst of the skyscrapers of midtown thanks to a 99-year lease.
The most famous clients are:
- Frank Sinatra was very generous in tips and was the "owner" of table 20 because he ended nearly all his trips to NYC.
- Buddy Holly has asked his girlfriend to marry him at PJ Clarke's Jackie Kennedy Onassis
- came to lunch with John John's on Saturday
- Nat King Cole, Ernest Borgnine, Richard Harris, Joan Crawford ...
He also appeared in many series and movies (besides Mad Love), as Highlander, The Lost Weekend (Billy Wilder), in Coyote Ugly, coyotes play baseball against the bartenders of PJ Clarke's . It is also one of the bars or the "Mad Men" have their ways. And just for that, it's a place to visit ...
Faced with so much success, others have open PJ Clarke's everywhere. There are now 4 in NYC, DC 2, 2 in Las Vegas and one in Sao Paulo. But the real, the original is at the corner of 3rd Avenue and 55th Street.
* Yes, Little Frog, is one of the bars where we went together.
